“31 years of serving victims of domestic violence”
November 8, 2011
Dear Friends:
As the New Year approaches we ready ourselves for renewing our hearts through the coming holiday events and hopes for a better tomorrow. To ensure a better tomorrow, our mission, to provide emergency shelter and services to all victims of domestic violence, includes safe passage for women trapped in violent relationships, a supportive safe harbor for children living in danger, and knowledge and resources for those living without an economic safety net.
Liberty House needs your support to sustain our life-saving mission. We urge you to consider a generous donation that will impact those many victims of domestic violence who are spending this holiday – and every day - in harm’s way.
No other organization in our service area is as dedicated to the safety and security of women and their children at risk; to programs and services that create a safer community for all families; and to healing of children exposed to domestic violence.
Donor support in the past year has allowed us to emerge from a devastating fire, shelter 78 woman and 95 children, provide services to a total of 855 people through our outreach programs, and answered 875 crisis calls. (18 of our victims this year were men.) Our volunteers provided 3,960 hours of their time to reduce costs to the agency.
According to reports by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Georgia now ranks 6th in the country for homicides against women resulting from domestic violence. In Georgia, 82 persons lost their lives due to domestic violence. The youngest casualty was only 1 year old. Locally, the Albany Police Department year to date statistics show a 17% increase in domestic violence reports. There is much work to be done!
With a ranking of being the 4th poorest city in the nation, Liberty House of Albany needs your support to continue to be part of the solution so desperately needed by victims of domestic violence.
This Holiday Season please take time to consider how you might make a difference by supporting our mission and vision. Join us in bringing the hope this New Year to every deserving woman and child affected by violence.
Wishing you and yours a wonderful Holiday Season!
